Why to use Allegro System Capture

Starting with schematic development for a new design? Try System Capture.

One of the major concerns when you adopt a new tool is the library configuration. When you have your existing libraries used in multiple designs, the idea of moving to a new tool is scary. The initial thought that comes to your mind is “what will happen to my existing libraries”. You would not want to discard your existing libraries.

Use your existing libraries

System Capture is fully compatible with OrCAD and DE-HDL libraries. Yes, you read it right – you can directly point your existing Capture or Concept HDL libraries and get started with your design.

Libraries can be configured in System Capture using Edit > Preferences > Available Libraries.

Creating a new project

During project creation, select the library mode – DE-HDL or OrCAD Capture, depending on which libraries you want to use – DE-HDL libraries or Capture CIS Database.

Search Providers

At times you need new parts in your design that do not exist in your libraries. Creating new parts can be cumbersome. Search providers help you find ready-to-use schematic, footprint, and 3D models. You can search, download, and include the symbol to your library and design.

System Capture is integrated with third-party search providers. You can select parts from SamacSys or Ultra Librarian and use them in your library or design.

In addition to using existing libraries, System Capture supports migrating existing Design Entry HDL or Capture CIS designs that you want to reuse. In our next post, we shall talk about migrating existing designs into System Capture.
