Why to use Allegro System Capture – Design Migration

Creating a new design from scratch can often be an exhaustive exercise. In today’s world, large parts of existing circuitry or logic get reused in new design development. Keeping this in mind, System Capture provides options to import existing designs created with DE-HDL or with OrCAD Capture.

Our previous post describes how to configure DE-HDL and OrCAD Capture (Capture CIS) libraries in System Capture.

In this post, we shall cover how you can migrate existing DE-HDL/OrCAD designs in System Capture.

To migrate a design, select File > New > Project from Existing Design and choose an appropriate source project, project name, and location. You can change the project name if required.

In this dialog box, choose either a DE-HDL or OrCAD Capture project that needs to be migrated.

Clicking on Create will migrate the project into System Capture.  A new folder structure gets created for the migrated design.

In addition to migrating the whole design, you can also import individual sheets or blocks from existing designs.

With a few clicks, you can complete the library- and design-migration process and continue your design activity using System Capture.
