Why to use Allegro System Capture – Custom Variables

In the schematic design, you want to pass on certain text information that is specific to the design but common to all projects of your company. For example, you want to keep things like design name, sheet number, and design author on all pages of your design. Keying this information on all designs manually is tedious.

You can add the required custom variables to the page border or title block symbols that you use in your designs to read the context-specific information automatically.

In addition to certain inbuilt variables, you can also add user-defined variables.

You can view the custom variables defined in site.cpm using Edit > Preferences > Custom Variable. This displays all the existing variables from site level and updates the design-specific values accordingly.

You can also add custom variables that are project-specific by using the <Add Custom Var> option.

Custom variables are generally used in title blocks. To add a custom variable, place a note and put a $ sign before the variable name.

All custom variables are automatically replaced with their design-specific values.
