Why to use Allegro System Capture – Multiuser Environment

In a single-user setup, you can add local libraries to your System Capture project easily using the Edit > Preferences option that we covered in one of our previous posts.

In certain situations, when you have a large team with centrally managed libraries and common settings, you are essentially working in a multi-user environment.

In a single-user setup, you need to configure all options and point to the correct libraries to create designs. However, in a multi-user environment, a site administrator configures all the required settings at the site level, and all users point to this setup. This helps maintain uniform or common settings for all designers in the organization.

CDS_SITE is a shared location where all required libraries are defined along with some default settings (like fonts, theme, default page border, and so on). Users just need to add the CDS_SITE environment variable and point to the correct location.

When you create a project with CDS_SITE set:

  • All libraries are automatically read from the site-level lib file for DE-HDL libraries and the site-level Capture.ini file for the CIS database. You need not add libraries to the projects manually. Libraries defined at the site level are shown under the Library tab in Unified Search.

  • All default project settings are read from the cpm file.

System Capture can also be integrated with Pulse environment.

In the Pulse-managed library flow, all libraries are configured on a library server, and all users point to this node using Remote URL in Pulse Manager.
