Why to use Allegro System Capture – Bypass/Decoupling Capacitors

Decoupling capacitors are passive components which act as local reservoirs of energy. These capacitors are placed very close to the IC’s power pins and prevent sudden fluctuations in voltage, which commonly occur because of switching load requirements, and therefore, help in stabilizing voltage levels.

System Capture provides a simple user interface where you can define the requirements for the bypass capacitor rail and generate a rail to be placed on the schematic sheet.

To add a bypass capacitor rail, you should have a power and ground rail present on the schematic. Right-click on the IC and select Add Bypass/Decaps from the pop-up menu.

Using the Select Capacitor option, you can choose the required capacitor from the library. Select the required power and ground nets, and specify the number of capacitors, to place the decoupling rail on the schematic canvas.
