Why to use Allegro System Capture – Managing Variants

Design variants are modifications of the base design for specific business requirements.

In System Capture, you can create and manage design variants easily. Multiple variants can be created from the base design, and components can be modified in the base schematic for use in the variants.

The user interface is in a tabular format, which lets you differentiate the variants. It also allows editing the variants using the general copy-paste commands.

You can define components in the variants as Do Not Install (DNI), Preferred Parts, and Alternate Parts.

Select the Variants menu in System Capture to create, edit, and manage variants.

Switch to the variant view to see the variant schematic. Parts marked as DNI appear with a cross mark in the variant view.

If the Allegro Design Files option is not available in the Import Wizard, that indicates that the Importer extension was not added during the initial installation of Altium Designer. The extension can be enabled in the Configure Platform page in the Extension & Updates view. Select Extensions and Updates from the Configuration menu ( show image ), tclick the Configure buton under the view’s Installed tab and then check the Allegro option in the Importers\Exporters section.  subway surfers

The ability to modify components in the base schematic for use in variants reduces redundancy and keeps all versions synchronized. This ensures that changes in the base design are consistently reflected in all relevant variants, reducing errors and rework.
