Why to use Allegro System Capture – Hierarchical Variants

Many a times, it is desired to use the lower-level variant information in hierarchical designs. System Capture supports reusing variants defined in the child schematic, in the top-level design.

Add the following directive in the <project>.cpm or site.cpm file to enable hierarchical variants:

START_BOMHDL

HIER_BOM_PROP '<property_name>'

END_BOMHDL

<property_name> is the custom property defined on the lower-level hierarchical block.

Enabling Hierarchical Variants

Now, when you create variants in the top-level design, you will see a dropdown list containing lower-level hierarchical block variants for the selected block.
