Why to use Allegro System Capture – Packaging on the fly

Packaging is an important step in the design cycle where reference designators are assigned to component instances placed on the schematic.

In Allegro System Capture, the packaging is done on the fly. That is, as soon as a component is placed on the schematic canvas, a reference designator (RefDes) is assigned to the component, and the design is packaged.

Packaging in System Capture follows a simple RefDes numbering that can be configured by defining a pattern. This enables you to easily trace components in the design and, if needed, make required changes. For more details, refer to our earlier post on Reference Designator Pattern.

Also, on-the-fly packaging flags errors and violations during the schematic-creation stage itself. Therefore, it allows you to take prompt corrective actions.

Examples:

  • If you are trying to make any invalid wiring connections, System Capture will not allow you to complete the connections:

  • Errors such as any mismatch in the interface ports on the block symbol are flagged in the Violation window.
