Controlling pin numbers of single pin symbols placed across the schematic

Often you would use single pin symbols for large pin count parts like a 1024-pin connector in the design. When you have the single pin symbol placed across a schematic page or design, a common challenge is assigning a desired pin number or sequence to the symbol pins.

We tend to realize that the pin numbering is not as per the preferred sequence after assigning the signal names and net-listing the design.

How do you handle such a scenario?

1. Annotate the design after placing the symbols, draw the wires and assign signal names manually.
2. Manually move around the symbol and associated net in the design.
3. Section the symbol and package the design.
4. Or any other approach.
