Different ways to achieve sequential reference designators (RefDes)

While creating a schematic, you often copy-paste parts or circuits across pages, insert new schematic sheets, and rearrange existing pages. This results in RefDes being numbered in a non-sequential manner.

Repackaging the design will renumber the RefDes sequentially. However, at times, this can become challenging, say, when the component placement/layout is significantly completed.

How do you generate sequential RefDes?

  1. Simply repackage the design.
  2. Repackage the design with a REF DES PATTERN or REF DES RANGE.
  3. Reassign reference designators in the PCB Layout and import to the schematic.
  4. Any other method?

We look forward to hearing from you.
