Starting Project from netlist, or layout

Hi,

I work for a design engineering firm. The way we are working right not is that we design the layout from a netlist from our client. So we basically don't have control on the schematics.

Our problem is when we generate a BOM file from the layout , we get information on the footprint and not on the actual component (PN)

I am currently trying to figure if there is a way the import a netlist to a new project to sync the layout design to a visual aid (schematic) and to link it to our local component library? I know it's a weird way to do thing, and I'm trying to simplify our design integration to the system capture flow.

Thank you

Does the customer supply an Allegro formatted netlist, or a flat netlist?

An Allegro formatted netlist will have component information imbeded in it, which is visible with BOM creation. surely the schematic parts at least have values.

If they won't allow access to their schematic, ask for an Allegro formatted netlist.

Since they control the schematic, it seems like they would create a BOM? I mean, creating a schematic usually entails selecting components.

We ran into a similar case with a customer. They were so secretive and stingy with information (even with an NDA) that we turned them away.
