Part Developer crashes and is unuseable

Hi,

 I'm having a problem with Part Developer 17.2 on Windows 10

I open Part Developer with the Allecgro PCB Librarian XL license. I choose Tools->Setup and if I change the grid spacing, it crashes when I press OK. Screen goes pale, (Not Responding) in the title bar etc. 

If I skip this and open a cell. When I open the Symbol Editor, it crashes. But worse. Screen goes black, I have to power cycle the PC.

The only clue I have is that while following the tutorial yesterday, there was no symbol preview shown in Part Developer. The tutorial said this would happen if the PCB Librarian XL license was not loaded, but it is. 

Any clues what might be wrong? I have an urgent deadline coming up and I've wasted a full day on this now. It is driving me mad!

    What exact version of software do you have installed from Help - About? Make sure it's 17.2-2016 S071 which is the latest.

    It was an older one. Fifty something I think, so I updated it. Still had the same problem.  

    But I figured it out.  I don't know whether to be happy I figured it out, or to feel dumb as rocks or to legitimately feel like Cadence has wasted 12 hours of my time with a dumb non-obvious thing. Mostly the latter I think!!!

    Eventually I realised it was only crashing when I increased the size of the grid spacing. Works fine when I decrease the grid spacing. Which is weird. Eventually, completely by chance, I moved the mouse cursor over the Part Developer icon in the taskbar. And there's a hidden dialogue box which has popped up but hidden behind the main screen! 

    It is waiting for me to confirm that I might have things not on the grid if I increase the spacing.  But gives every appearance of having crashed if you don't know the secret dialog box is there in the background!

    The issue with the crashing Symbol Editor seems fixed now, which I presume is due to the Hotfix update. Thanks for the tip!

    My only remaining issue is:  Any clues why I've got no symbol preview in the 'Symbol Pins' tab of Part Developer?

    I'm going through FTB ILS training right now. 

    Symbol preview requires a Librarian XL license checkout.  It's not a feature with my base-Allegro license.

    I have the Allegro PCB Librarian XL licence selected in Project Manager, and it is showing in the title bar in the top left of my Part Developer screen. 

    I wonder if somehow the licence is not working?  After a few weeks now of learning this software, it wouldn't surprise me at all that it would just fail messily, rather than give an 'error with license' message!

    Is there any way I can verify the licence is working?

    I learned from a bit more messing about that the thing I'm looking for is called the 'Canvas'. It appears if I press the 'full screen' button. The canvas appears full screen (but with no symbol in it). When I toggle back from full screen, the canvas is next to the Logical Pins table, but no symbol and none of the buttons work - zoom, draw things, show/hide grid etc...
