Ref Des Format

Troy Wilson

I was wondering if there's anyway to change the format of a ref des. The program automatically counts and labels them, but for large projects, my company labels them with [Sch pg num].[Instance]. Currently it appears as theough the EEs are doing this manually when making a schematic. Is there any way I can reformat the automatic Ref Des creation to to this?

Thanks for any help or advice you can give.

I don't think you can change that during the schematic creation, but in allegro there is a skill function axlRenameRefdes(old_name new_name) allows you to...

There also is the external command 'reftxt', it's documentation/help file is shown below:

reftxt: Allows renaming of a design's refdes via a text file.

    Command line:
    reftxt <rename file.txt> <in design> [<out design>]

If out design is not given overwrites the in design.

    Logfile: reftxt.log

Rename file syntax; one refdes rename per line:
    <current refdes> <new refdes>

    What is the schematic tool?

If orcad capture: i do not know if possible

if concept hdl, then, i have already seen company doing this in designs. Have a look to REF_DES_PATTERN_FIX directive for packager in documentation

It is DE HDL.  I just found this option in the packager menu. I'll try it out when we next update the schematic. thank you.
