Set default text editor in Windows

Hi,

I want to use Notepad++ as my text editor, but only for myself (my computer) as others that open the schematic may not have this installed.

Help files state if you set the environment variable CDS_TEXT_EDITOR it will override the settings in the Tools tab.  I tried this in Win10 and with 17.2 and it's not working (yes I restarted after the change).

CDS_TEXT_EDITOR=C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\notepad++.exe

Has anyone gotten this to work?

Richard

    Apart from defining the environment variable, try adding $CDS_TEXT_EDITOR directive in the <project>.cpm file under CONCEPTHDL section.

    START_CONCEPTHDL

    TEXT_EDITOR '$CDS_TEXT_EDITOR'

    END_CONCEPTHDL

    Thanks for the tip, this worked to let me use Notepad++, but then I tried opened the project on another PC without this tool or the environment variable set and it causes an error and doesn't open the default (regular notepad) nor the setting in Setup-Tools.

    Can you share screenshot of the error message? If you are opening the same project on another machine, DE-HDL is possibly looking for the $CDS_TEXT_EDITOR env variable, which is not defined. Try putting 'notepad' in Tools > Options >Text on machines where Notepad++ is not available.

    The default text editor path under setup is 'write'

    In DE-HDL, go to Tools > Options > Text, and put the Text Change Editor' as 'notepad'
