changing only one padstack mounting hole

Hello guys,

What's the easiest way to change one and only one padstack from a mounting hole?. When I use Replace>Padstack it changes all mounting holes with that padstack in the board and I only need to change one. The mounting hole does not have ref des or pin number so there's no way to isolate that change into that specific hole.

I'm on Allegro v15.1

Not sure if this is the process for 15.1 but I think it's similar, in 16.01 go to tools - padstack - modify design padstack, then select the mounting hole you want to modify. In the options tab menu you get a list. There is a Instance or definition checkbox. If you check instance then only that instance will be modified. Go into edit and modify the padstack accordingly.

Unfortunately using Tools > Padstack > Modify Design Padstack with the Instance radio button selected will change all the padstacks in the case where the mounting hole does not have a RefDes or Pin number to isolate it. (This has always been this way)

To be on the safe side I would suggest generating another symbol with the updated padstack on the one mounting hole you would like to change and swap it out with the symbol you currently have placed in the design.  This would prevent someone in the future from doing a Place > Update Symbols and have your padstack change go away.

To swap in the new symbol with the updated padstack, place the new symbol outside of the board outline and use Place > Swap > Components and select the old symbol then the new symbol which will place the new symbol it in the same exact spot on the board.

    Hope this helps,

Steve, I tried that before and I got the message when click on edit under definition:

F- Illegal arguments passed to a dba routine

I created a new symbol and it worked fine..just wondering why Definition doesnt work..any clues?

    thanks!

Be sure to use the lower portion of the options tab that allows you to enter the reference designator, pin number and that will change just that padstack on that pin of that symbol.
