Assign a net to a mechanical pin

Hi,

I don't know if this issue is talked before. How can I assign a net name to a mecanical pin.

A mechanical pin ( screw hole)  without a net , I want to add GND.

Best regards.

There is no way to assign a net name to a mechanical pin unless it actually has a Reference Designator and Pin # so it can be driven in the netlist.  If it does have a RefDes and Pin number than you can either add it to the netlist (PREFERRED) or you could use "Logic > Net Logic" to assign the net name GND.  Of course this hole will need to be plated thru to insure that it is connected to the inner GND planes.

One alternative, if the pin is non-plated and does not have a Ref Des or Pin Number, is to define a static shape with the net name GND around the hole with a void in the middle to clear the drill then add multiple vias to connect the shape to the GND planes,  This shape would need to be sized correctly and add a soldermask opening will need to be added to expose the shape so it contacts the mounting screw. See attached example below. Obviously, a lot of work and it is just better to add it to the netlist to avoid all this extra stress.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi,

Thank you very much for your answers.

I wish Allegro has some capabilities about this event. Because some reasons we may want to assign some nets to some pins, etches. e.t.c. like shapes. Someone can assign a net to a shape by just few clicks easily.

    Best regards
