Wildcards in PCB Editor Paths

 Does anybody know if its possible to define paths in PCB Editor that include wildcards?

 For example, defining the symbol path as <path>/pcb/symbols/*

 I'm trying to get the editor to recognize subdirectories in my local "symbols" directory without having to keep adding additional paths to in the User Preference.  I can't find any information on wildcards, so if anybody knows of a good place to look, it would be appreciated.

    Actually this works on Solaris but not on Windows.  I believe it is a Windows limitation and not one on Allegro PCB Editor.

    Example:

    On Solaris we have a padstack library broken down into sub-folders as follows:

                <Library Path>/Padstacks/Plated

                <Library Path>/Padstacks/Non-Plated

                <Library Path>/Padstacks/SMD

                <Library Path>/Padstacks/Pin-and-Paste

    Each directory above contains padstack files (*.pad) and in our environment we define the PADPATH as follows:

                PADPATH = <Library Path>/Padstacks/*

    With this setting Allegro will look thru all sub-folders to locate padstacks but unfortunately it only works on Solaris.  Maybe there is an equivalent wildcard character on Windows but I have never found it.

    Hope this helps,

     That's consistent with what I've been seeing.  I was hoping to do some similar library organization on windows, but it looks like I would have to add those dir paths manually every time we add a new dir... so for now, it seems the hodgepodge library is my only option.  I'm new to the cadence tools, but I'm wondering if there is a way of running script on startup of PCB editor that scans the library tree structure and updates the path file?

     Yes, it's possible to run script on startup.

    Just add a file named allegro.ilinit in your pcbenv diractory.

    In this file you can SOURCE script files and also add some skill code if needed.
