Autosave

Hi All,

I have had the autosave Value box checked for a month now and have '10' in autosave_time as well as the name 'backup' in the autosave_name but I cannot locate a backup file on my hard drive. Anyone have any clues to why there have been no backup files created?

    tccab,

Assuming you have Autosave turned on by checking the environment box the only suggestion I have is to try another name other than "backup".  Backup may be a command name and confusing to the system.  Try resetting to the default name of Autosave by leaving the filename blank and you should find that it works.

Not sure if this will help but the name backup really shouldn't be a problem, IMHO.  Not sure why you can't find the file.  As an FYI, we have chosen to implement a solution like this in a SITE env file.

      ifvar USERNAME "set autosave_name=AUTOSAVE_$USERNAME"

This forces the autosave file to carry the name of the user who's working the design.  We've had cases where two people have the same design open at the same time, one editing and one viewing.

    Hi,

You can also set the number of autosave boards to keep.

Go to setup, user preferences, file_management and set ads_autosaverevs. If you set it to 5 and you have set the autosave time to 10 minutes it will be possible to go back 50 minutes in time.

Beware though, if you don't exit the command you're in, you don't get an autosave (at least up to ver15.7).  Let's say you are totally zoned into routing and haven't left the route command for an hour...the 10minute autosave intervals got you nothing.  Autosaves are great for a backup, but they are not a substitute for regular saves.
