Footprint Libraries

Hi everyone,

I am trying to learn how to use my OrCAD PCB Designer, but I have some troubles. When tried the tutorial, I got the following:

“The 16.0 version of the Allegro PCB Editor Tutorial is not accessible at this time. The tutorial is being updated with the newest functionality in the 16.0 release. The updated tutorial will be provided as soon as it becomes available.”

I decided to create a very symple design (the schematic contains only 4 components – connector, fuse, resistor and LED) and to go through all steps – schematic capture, PCB design, generating manufacturing files and BOM. There weren't problems with the schematic capture, because I am familiar with OrCAD schematic capture and OrCAD Layout. When generating the netlist however, I got error messages because components' footprints weren't specified. I didn't specify them, because I couldn't find the PCB Designer footprint libraries. Then I decided to put random names for my component footprints in a hope that the program might offer me to select some from the available footprint libraries. This time the netlist was generated with the warnings that the specified footprints couldn't be found. Unfortunately the program didn't give me a path to the existing footprint libraries.

How can I find the footprint libraries for the OrCAD PCB Designer version 16.0? Is the tutorial for version 16.0 available already and how can I have it?

    Oldmouldy, Ole Ejlersen, BillZ,

I contacted my Orcad PCB Editor supplier and they provided me with an upgrade. The file name was isr200711191914_orcad160_wint_1of1.exe. I installed it and now I have version 16.0 s033 on my computer.

I have printed your suggesions and I am using them now to learn how to use the package. Thanks a lot!
