part numbering issue

I am building a Full Adder. I placed 2 Hierarchical Blocks in my circuit. When I highlight and right click one of the blocks and go to descend hierarchy, one of the half-adder circuit opens up. The issue is that the part numbers like U1A for 7404 in the first half adder and the second half adder under the 2nd Hierarchical Block are the same. So either way, when I open either the first or the second half adder schematic from either the 1st or the 2nd Hierarchical Block, all the parts are numbered same. I double click and change one half adder and reopen the other one, and it somehow makes the same changes to them as well. I tried to annotate and it did not help. I can also see the same issue when I open the Cross Reference Parts list. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I guess that you are using OrCAD Capture or DE CIS.

Repeated hierarchical blocks mean that your design is now in "Occurrences" mode, you need to use Edit Properties for each part and modify the "Occurrence" properties in the "yellow" entries, rather then the "Instance" properties which are visible, these will indeed be common to both. OR, select the Project Window, and then the DSN file entry, use Tools>Annotate and pick "Reset all references to ?" and OK, then use Tools>Annotate again and pick "Incremental Reference update", the design will then be correctly annotated. (There is a Full Adder sample along these lines in the "tools\Capture\samples" directory")

As an alternative approach, use two copies of the block and reduce the design to a simple hierarchy, this will correctly be in instances mode and the visible properties will be correctly edited.

I am using Capture CIS and I created the 2 hierarchical blocks separately. Still when I click on either of the 2 hierarchical blocks and go to descend hiearchy and open my halfadder circuit, then the part numbering like U1A for 7404 is same under both the hierarchical blocks. I tried your solution. So I right click on one of the hierarchical blocks and go to Edit Properties and then from the drop-down menu, I select Current Properties but and I expand the FULLADD: FULADD: HALFADD_A1 and I see another column with enteries in yellow. Yet I was unable to locate Occurences in that menu. Please advice.

    Thanks
