Importing CSI capture schematic to PCB Editor

 Hi,

I am kinda new to OrCad and am having trouble with my layout.

I imported my logic to PCB editor and I have couple of errors and warnings.

First of all I have to learn to draw footprints that I am working on the thing that i dont understand is how to match the PIN numbers .

For my DB9 connector there is mismatch in the footprint and the symbol. As the number of pins in the schematic was 9 and footprint has 2 more drill holes.

I added two pin to my schematic and put a NC on the two pins. When I import the logic it doesnt show me error for this part but when i want to place is it, the command prompt shows this message "Pin numbers do not match between symbol and component. Run dev_check on device file for more information"

I am able to see the part as preview and I try to place the part but it doesnt seem to work.

Also I am getting these errors and warnings

#1   ERROR(SPMHNI-191): Device/Symbol check error detected.

WARNING(SPMHNI-337): Unable to load symbol '7X2-POS-HEADER' for device 'HEADER 7X2_7X2-POS-HEADER_D2514': WARNING(SPMHUT-127): Could not find padstack P65C45P.
due to ERROR(SPMHDB-274): Unable to load flash symbol TR61X75X15-45 (Check PSMPATH setting for this symbol).

#1   WARNING(SPMHNI-192): Device/Symbol check warning detected.

WARNING(SPMHNI-194): Symbol '2POS_SPDT' for device 'SW SLIDE-SPDT_2POS_SPDT_2POS_SP' not found in PSMPATH or must be "dbdoctor"ed.

I have checking my design path which seems to be correct and I am able to see the padstack P654C45P but still it doesnot read it.

The last warning is because I havn't drawn the footprint yet which I am going through to draw the footprint.

Please help me

Regards,

Maha

Ok, fairly simple.  First the two pins... there are two types of pins: electrical and mechanical.  Mechanical pins are not counted by the packager.  It is looking to match electrical pins.  Some people tie the two shield (or case) pins electrically in their DB9 symbol so they can attach to a ground plane.

In the symbol editor look at each pin (display element). It will list the pin type and number if it's electrical.
OrCAD needs to have a matching set of electrical pins and you'll be ok.

WARNING(SPMHNI-337): Unable to load symbol '7X2-POS-HEADER' for device 'HEADER 7X2_7X2-POS-HEADER_D2514': WARNING(SPMHUT-127): Could not find padstack P65C45P.
due to ERROR(SPMHDB-274): Unable to load flash symbol TR61X75X15-45 (Check PSMPATH setting for this symbol).

This one is because you are missing a flash symbol called TR61X75X15-45.  You need to make sure you have this symbol somewhere in your symbol path or generate a new one with the same name.
