I am using OrCAD PCB designer version 16.0 and cannot figure out how to copy a line from a silkscreen layer to assembly layer. Can anyone help?

    Hi Kroum,

I do this by edit>copy choose user pick in option tab and select the lines you wish to copy into other layer of same class.

then give a selection point(copy this point in note pad too)to pick the lines and paste these lines outside the board by giving another point(example. x 2000,2000 and copy this to note pad) in command window.

now go to edit>change select lines in finds tab and option window check the layer box and select the layer to top assembly click on the line to change after changing go to edit>move select the lines and give the second point (eg x 2000,2000) and then give the first point again and lines are copied.

if you want to change line from one class to another, this process is different. If you want to do this you can visit

there should be a skill program or any other better way to do this I tell you the process which I follow.

    Regards

    Hi,

If you're using 16.0/16.01 or 16.2 you should be able to do a mouse over the line, right click and change to Layer

    - you can even do an area select, the important part is that the datatip (small popup) should show segment or line.

Notice: Remember to check your find panel - it need to have lines and/or other segs enabled.

    Best regards,

    Ole

     Hi Ole!

I like this. It seems easier to remember. I am now learning the program and the alternative solutions help me understand its logic better. One of my problems is that I am doing not more than one PCB per year and have plenty of time to forget things.

Using "Change" instead of "Copy" is the better way to go.  Using "Change" will maintain assoication to the component (symbol) while using "Copy" just duplicates the lines and they will not be assoicated with the component (symbol).

    Hope this helps,
