where did the highlight icon go?

I can still find the display > highlight but in 15.5.1 it was available in the toolbar to the left of the dehighlight.

who needs to be contacted to get this very useful feature put back on the menus

If my memory serves me correctly, this occurred on Allegro 16.2 with the roll out of the Assign Color command; Cadence then replaced the Highlight icon with the Assign Color icon.  If you enable "Highlight Pattern" under the option tab while you are in the Assign Color command it will give you the highlighting capability that you seen previously.   The Highlight command from the Display menu only gives you the ability to highlight elements using the Default highlight color only.   It is a slight functionality change but you can still perform the same highlight functions from the Assign color command.

    Hope this helps,

This is a major step away from being useful for me.

I highlight many things at the same time during routing using different colors for each item.

this allows me to see the trees in the forest (so to speak) and then I can route thru them.

does Cadence ever ask before they destroy something that works extremely well?

adding functionality is great but to take away does not make much sense.

the only way that Cadence gets people to use the current software is to stop supporting the old versions

nothing I have seen in the webinars for 16.2 seems like it is worth the effort to go to 16.2 and lose the functionality of Highlight

so much for my negative opinion, but they just made a job that I have been doing with Cadence tools since Valid version4 alot more difficult

I have to be honest with you the Assign Color command works the same as the old Highlight command as long as you enable the "Highlight Pattern" option under the options tab. Let me explain it just a little bit more.

Assign Color Command: Allows you to assign a solid color to design elements and allows net color management via the Color Display form. When you enable "Highlight Pattern" under the options tab then it will function the same way Highlight worked in previous versions of Allegro.

Highlight Command: Allows you to highlight design elements using one color striping thru the design elements color, also known as candy striping, but you no longer have access to the color pallet from this command because it is now part of the new Assign Color command.

Like you, I have been using Allegro for a long time now and I have always utilized the environmental variable DISPLAY_NOHILITEFONT to see a solid highlight of my highlighted design elements vs. using the default candy striping provided by the Highlight command. I don't see any lost of functionality with the revamped Highlight command and the new Assign color command but I do see an increase of functionality to allow a higher level of Net color controls that were not available in previous versions of Allegro.

I attached an image illustrating the differences.

If there is anyone out there from Cadence please feel free to chime in on the topic.

Hope this helps - Mike Catrambone

    Thanks for your help Mike

My env file was pointing to the cuimenus for 16.1 so the assign color options were missing causing a considerably different experience when attempting to use the tools.

now, with pointing to the correct cuimenus, it works as described.
