Changes to padstacks/updating to design

Version 16.2 software.

First design using the above, new padstacks made, new symbols made, placed and routed.

Realized I made a few errors in the padstacks and modified such. Modified padstacks to add drill tolerance, changed figure for drill chart and saved. Opened first symbol dra. file, replaced modified padstack and could see the change that I made, namely the drill figure was changed from a plus ( +) to the letter A.

When into the .brd and used update symbol, selecting the symbol in question to replace the updated symbol.

Then I regenerated the drill template and expected to see the new changed graphic letter, A, on the pins and also it the drill chart, nothing changed.

What am I missing? I have other symbols that I have to do the same thing but need to figure out what I'm doing wrong first.

Also when I look at the padstack report in the design file it still says the old unrevised padstack.

    Hello,

The .brd file stores a local copy of all the padstacks in the design, similar to the way the symbol .dra does, so you will need to refresh the updated padstacks in the .brd as well.  In the Update Symbols form you need to check the option "Update symbols padstacks" so padstacks for the updated symbol selected are refreshed in the design.  If for some reason that does not work you could update the padstack manually from the Tools > Padstack > Refresh menu.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike Catrambone

    Thanks for the reply.

I have tried both of your suggestions; actually this is what I was doing before I asked for help.

I have gone back to the first symbol and looked at it again.

I have a redlined copy of the pad stack definition report for reference.

When I review the pad stack data in the library it reflects the changes I made.

When I review the data in the symbol they agree.

But after doing the symbol update and pad stack update, then reviewing the pad stack definition report, there is not update.

I think maybe my padpath and symbol paths might not be correct.

In the .brd file, if I go to place manually and select package symbol and library, I don’t see the component in question.

If I have my paths correct I should be able to see the component in the library right.

    Hi

You can try one more way. Go to manufacture on tool bar >> NC >> Drill costumization. Then you will get dill spreadsheet. There you can change the  symbol figure, symbol letter , symbol size for our drill, hit ok . Then once again create drill chart by hitting NCdrill prameter tool.Place it.

Yes, you might have missed your paths, old pads are updating it seems. Chang the path and upadate it.

     hope it helps....

Thank you so much for your suggestion, it worked.

The first thing this morning I checked my paths again and determined they are correct.

So I tried the Drill customization spreadsheet putting in the data that I had previous put into the padstacks.

I then regenerated the NC drill chart and all my updates showed up.

I now have the correct information to proceed with generating the Gerber files.

I’m still not sure why the previous attempts to update the padstacks and symbols did not work.

If this happens again on the next design I’ll know how to correct it.
