OrCAD 16.2 Demo installation problems on Vista 32

 Hi,

I'm a computer Engineering student that needs to install the OrCAD demo on my laptop for a few classes, but I can't seem to get it to install properly.

I go through the installation options, and it seems to "install" fine, but when it gets to "setting up the environment" part of the process, it hangs. "A few minutes" have turned into hours and it's still not working.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Check to see if your PATH env variable value is too long i.e. truncate it to like 6 or 7 path values and then try to install.  Then after installing, add the remaining values.

I‘m a Microelectronics student and also using a 32-bit Vista OS and I installed  OrCAD 16.2 demo on my laptop successfully.

when I met the "setting up the environment" part, I typed in 5280@(your ip address, no space. e.g.5280@192.168.0.133,if you are in a

LAN, use the in-LAN ip ), To get your ip Address, transfer cmd(Winkey+R,and type in cmd, then type ipconfig/all in the MSdos dialogue

    box to check your ip).

    HTH.

Same / similar problem, in WinXp Pro SP2 ... tried watching the setup.exe activity via Process Explorer & Process Monitor.

Have tried running from Administrator, etc.  Network license setup (port@host) should be solid.

Will have to trace this again (oh, joy).  Larry

     Hi all,

i have the same problem with the installation of the OrCAD Demo (OS: WinXP). The installation works till the "setting up the enviroment" starts. Then... nothing!

I tried the suggestion from PolarBear, but it doesn't work...

    Any other idea?

    Thanks

I guess I didn't post back after I got mine done.  I had finally done a safe-mode boot and I probably logged in as Administrator, and finally got the installation done successfully.

You know, I've had this problem with a couple of different packages (from different vendors).

Sometimes, certain software installers won't fully execute (they hang around), I don't know why.  I've been frustrated w/ this machine.

I'm sure that the problem is (ultimately) something wrong on my system; but, you have no idea because the dang thing doesn't tell you what's going on.

For example, recently I installed GBRUtil.  The installer (gbrvu.win32.v312c.exe) didn't seem to be doing anything (after the first window disappears), so I then tried running it as Administrator.

Then, the installer is able to launch ntvdm, but it seemed to be idling (in mainCRTStartup), not getting anywhere.

Then I rebooted it, into safe mode w/ networking (logged in as Administrator) and I got that installation done w/o a problem.

At this point I believe that certain processes are holding up or preventing a particular service or management layer from continuing, during some part of the installation.

You might get a clue, by looking at the process stacks, or not.

I shouldn't speculate prematurely but a couple of candidates for the culprit (in my case) might be  a) the wireless network adapter software; and b) the anti-virus software.

    Larry.
