Hi,

Is it possible to create a schematic symbol from a vhdl entity or verilog module?

thnx

     Hi ltoth,

Yes, there are Verilog In and VHDL In tools from the CIW  File->Import->Verilog  or  File->Import->VHDL menus.  I don't know which version you are using, but these tools are fairly similar between IC5141 and IC61x.  You may need to import leaf cells or primitive type devices first; I'm not sure about VHDL but Verilog has built-in gates, e.g. nand, inv etc., and the sample library has symbols for many such cells.  When importing, be sure to include the appropriate reference libraries for the symbol views.  If everything is correct you should get a schematic out of it; they tend not to be "pretty" but they should be functionally correct.  For cells that are placed (instantiated) in other cells, Verilog In will create both the schematic and the symbol.

I recommend starting with a simple block with not too many instances and then build up from there, rather than trying to begin with 100K gates !

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Lawrence.

     Hi,

I just saw that this was posted to the PCB forum - all the information I mentioned above is coming from a custom IC tools, e.g. icfb or virtuoso, so I apologise if this does not match with the PCB tools.  The (Allegro?) schematic tool is similar to the Composer tool from what I understand.

    Regards,

    Lawrence.

    Hello,

In Part Developer you have the ability to import and export several different formats but it requires an Allegro PCB Librarian Expert License.  If you do have the license you will have access to the Import/Export wizard via the File menu. (File > Import and Export) where you can import a VHDL and Verilog Model as a starting point for a schematic symbol.  I think this is what you are looking for.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike Catrambone
