Free Physical Viewer tied to Licenses

I was just sent this msg by my IT 'demon' .

I’ve just spoken with the folks in the legal department at Cadence.  We are, in fact, limited by the licensing agreement to installing the number of seats of the Free Viewer that corresponds to the number of seats of Cadence that we have.

I would like to know what other users have heard and what do they think of this?

IMHO some wires are crossed here, unless the Software License Agreement that you have active specifically restricts this.

For any "normal" installation, the number of product installations is not restricted, licensing restricts the number of simultaneous users but not the number of installations. Equally, the Free Viewer is specifically that, you are not required to have a product license to install and run the Free Viewer, though you may need to register to download it.

Sounds like Allegro Viewer (with enhancements, uses license) is getting mixed-up with the Allegro Free Viewer (no enhancements, no license restrictions).
