Does PCB Editor have anything like the library manager in Layout?

My university department has developed a library of PCB footprints for students using Layout. (They have extra-large pads for easy soldering, route and via keepouts to discourage unsolderable PCBs, and so on.) We converted the library automatically to PCB Editor (which worked fairly well) and now plan to clean it up and add new footprints over the summer. It would be helpful if we could get a single printout to show all the footprints in the library. This was easy in Layout, where everything was stored in a single library file and the library manager had helpful commands. Is there any way of doing the same in PCB Editor? Our files are stored in their own directories (symbols and drawings in one, padstacks in another).

The only way I can see is to (a) make a new board file, (b) edit the search paths to pick up only our symbols, (c) open the Place Manual dialog, (d) change the Advanced Settings to search the library rather then the database, (e) select all the symbols (f) click repeatedly on the board to place them all. Oh yes, then I have to name them all.

Is there a better way (please)? It would also be helpful to show the name of each symbol automatically (in the refdes, for instance).

No because in Allegro each part is a unique file...may be Cadence should enhance Allegro like OrCAD Layout in this area.

That is really bad.  Without Footprint Manager, this whole package seems to be useless.  You can't find symbols fast anough.

Are you sure they don't have anything of footprint manager?

    Thanks

The library browsing tool in Concept is 'Component Browser' and its very usefull.  You have the ability to browse parts mby classification, view the logic symbol side by side with the footprint symbol.   There are also filters that let you do a parametric search of components by value, tolerance or any user defined parameters you create in the part table files.  For example, you could select the smd_resistors, filter for the 0402 case size, and display the parts in ascending/decendig values, or search by range.  it also recognizes the scientific prefix for the descretes so it knows how to sort uf, nf pf etc.
