DXF import into brd file

Carvey

Having trouble with this. I have created an array outline with dimensions and data for vendor in Autocad and exported out a DXF file.

Trying to import file into to existing brd file.

I have created a new class (manufacturing),sub-class (araay_panel) for this data to reside on.

I select the import dxf, select dxf file (from Autocad), select the conversion file, select class, sub-class.

Map, select ok.

It says completed but the dxf data is not added to brd file on the selected layers. in fact it is not on any existing layer.

I have read the help file on this and have tried 3 times without any success.

Can someone offer any advice on what I'm not doing right?

thanks

A few things to look at:

    1.  Did you select the option to "Incremental Additon" on the UI?  If not, the dxf data will be imported into a blank database (without your user defined subclass).

    2.  Are there any messages in the dxf2a.log file?

    3.  Use all UPPERCASE for the subclass name in the Allegro brd and the layer conversion file.

    Good morning

I’m still trying to figure out how to do this DXF import.

    This is information on my progress;

    - DXF input form
    - I select use default text
    - I select incremental addition
    - Accuracy displays as 4

    Then I get warning!

The dxf file accuracy is greater than the design file accuracy; allow the dxf data to be truncated? Yes or no?

    The design accuracy is 2.

Do I have to change the brd design accuracy to 4 to match the dxf input accuracy?

The #*.tmp filename is the temporary filename of the brd that was open when you started the Import DXF process.

Are the BRD units and the DXF units the same?  Note that the DXF units are not contained within the DXF file itself.  You need to specify the correct DXF units on the Import DXF UI to get the proper translation.  By default, the Import DXF UI assumes that the DXF units are the same as the current BRD units.

If there is a mismatch in the units, some values may be truncated so much that the geometry can not be created; or the geometry may be very small relative to the BRD extents and you'll need to zoom in to see it.
