How to toggle between original & relative grid

Tanveer

Hi all,

I have to rout a BGA socket in pcb. I want to make a relative grid with respect to the pins of & the pitch of BGA because it is very hard to rout from exact centre of to pad of BGA . Is there a way to make this relative grid and then toggle between both grids.

Best Regards

Tanveer

I think I see now what you really want -- you want the grid display to change relative to the pin.  You have to have scripts to do that. I have a custom SKILL routine that once initialized lets you pick the relative grid on the fly but it's not public.  You can set up some scripts and use one of the free SKILL routines from Cadence that lets you pick any script on the fly -- that should do the job.

But the summary is that you can't do the dynamic grid changing without a supporting routine/script.  The relative pick button I mentioned moves the origin to the pick but the grids stay on the old origin.

Is there a setting to have the relative mode to be the start up default?

Sorry for being a little late to the game here.  This is a really old thread (2005) which suggested to use SKILL Code to quickly change the origin but for some time now Allegro has had the functionality out of the box.

You can offset the grid to the origin of a pin in the BGA field from the Define Grid form. Just add the Offset X and Y under All Etch to shift the grid as required. I use this technique all the time and also create variable grids to allow routing thru the BGA field with ease.
IMO: it is better to just offset the grid vs. changing the design origin every time you want to work inside of a BGA field.

If you wish to move the design origin you can simple use the built in command "chg origin" (Setup > Change Drawing Origin) which will perform the same task and also thru the RMB you have the ability to snap to Via, Pin, Shape Center, etc.

In general you could probably write a script around the built-in functions to get you what you want.

    Hope this helps,
