 Hi all,

I have installed Foot Print Maker (FPM) v0.0.8.0 When trying to creat a footprint in Allegro PCB design L v16.01, below error appears.

function grids redefined
Starting new drawing...
E-
E- skill "'load "C:\\Cadence\\FPM\\fpm.il"'"
E-                ^
E- SYNTAX ERROR found at line 1 column 16 of file *string*
E- *Error* lineread/read: syntax error encountered in input
E- *Error* skill: too many arguments (0 expected, 1 given) - ("exit")
Command >

Can anyone help to solve this problem.

Thanks,

Shiva.

    Shiva,

In your statement E- skill "'load "C:\\Cadence\\FPM\\fpm.il"'" has two double quotes and two back slashes in the path  for loading the skill, the correct syntax should be

    skill load "C:\Cadence\FPM\fpm.il"

    Give this a try.
    Good luck!!

    Nagaraj.

Nagaraj, I tried before as you informed. But the Allegro tool will hange when i try to create a symbol. The skill file fpm.il will automatically load when i click to generate a symbol in FPM. And the fpm.il file is in unreadable format. Normally skill files are in readable and can be modified easily. Are you running successfully the FPM tool? Please help.

    Thanks,

    Shiva.

Yes, skill files are readable text format. We are not using the FPM for footprint creation.
I would sugggest to get the help from FPM tool support directly.

    Hi Shiva

If I remember correct you will need at least an Allegro PCB Performance Option to run the FPM tool - first thing is to check if you're running Allegro PCB Design L or OrCAD PCB Designer (Basics)

    Best regards

    Hi Shiva

When reading your first post carefully I notice that you're using Allegro L - and hence this is the problem.

Allegro PCB Design L won't load skill files from the command prompt which is exactly what the FPM tool does when generating footprints. As written in my previous post this demands at least PCB Performance Option.

If you look at the Allegro datasheet (link below) this is basically what's covered by "SKILL Development" on page 7

    Best regards
