change a symbol in PCB Editor

I had a question about changing a symbol in PCB Editor. I desire to change a single part footprint in Editor.  In layout this was very simple, by right-clicking on the part, then properties, then a graphic would even show the footprints.  This is the same idea I want to do in PCB Editor.  My symbol directory is at the root but i do not wish to change the footprint under the netlist evertime and save and import just to change the footprint of one part.  Can this be done quicker?

Thanks

Tom

     Tom,

Allegro is a netlist based tool therefore the netlist ulitmately has to include an alternate symbol if you want to change it.  You can add a property in the schematic "ALT_SYMBOLS" which includes in the alternate footprint.  Then you can right click while placing the part and change the footprint on the fly...

Now that that's said you can edit the netlist on the fly inside of Allegro with logic edit.  Not sure what license level you have but I think this works with Performance and up level of license.  Of course you run the risk of getting the netlist out of sync with the schematic should you choose this route.

actually one more question...lets say i created a netlist and exported to PCB editor.  Then, i forgot to connect a component.  So I go back into Design Entry CIS and and and the component to my circuit.  From PCB Editor, can I import the updated netlist so all my other components remain on the board where i originally placed them?
