Special pad shape

Hello

Want to create a special padshape that looks like a T.

It has to be a connect pin in the symbol.

Has anyone done this before?

Using 16.2.

thanks

    1) Create a shape symbol with your T-shape.

    2) Create a padstack that uses your shape symbol.

    3) Create a symbol that uses the padstack as a pin.

    Thank you for your reply.

Could you please explain in a little more detail each step you have described?

Okay, but I suggest you go through the tutorials since I won't cover every little thing that is required to properly create a symbol.

    1)  From an Allegro PCB session, select File->New.  Enter a name for your shape symbol and change the drawing type to Shape Symbol.  Create your shape on Etch/Top (at the proper origin).  Save and exit.

    2)  Start Padstack Designer and go to the Layers tab.  In the Regular Pad section change the Geometry to Shape.  In the Shape field, browse to the shape symbol you created in step 1.  Save and exit.

    3)  Open your symbol that you want to change the pin on.  Go to Layout->Pins.  On the Options tab, browse to the padstack you created in step 2.  Enter the appropriate pin number, etc.  Place the pin where you want it on your symbol.  Save and exit.

You should now have a symbol that uses your special pad shape.

    Thanks for your reply.

I have looked at the tutorial and still had trouble doing this.

I have created the custom shape.

When I try to create a new padstack using the new custom shape I can see it and added it.

But when I save it gives me an error, symbol origin outside of pad shape.

Can you tell me what the error message means and how to fix it?

    Thanks

When you create your shape, the origin (0, 0) needs to be somewhere inside the shape.  This will become the connection point for the pin.
