How to change the colour of an object when selected (highlight)?

Hello everybody,

Does anybody know how to actually change the colour of an object, such as a text entity, only when the item is selected?  I cannot seem to be able to do it using the colors dialog.

For example, lets say I want to change the colour of all my silkscreen reference designators.  At the moment, the colour of the reference designators are a kind of loam green colour and when they are highlighted, they are white.  I find this loam green a bit hard to see so I want to change the reference designators to white.

I can change the colour such that the silkscreen is white, but if I try to select a reference designator text, I cannot tell if it is selected because the colour does not change (it seems the "selected" colour is also white).  I cannot figure out how to use the colours dialog make the selected colour of the item different from the normally displayed colour.

The colors dialog has two boxes beside the colour selection chart.  One says "New" and one says "Selected".  I can't make sense of these boxes.  What do these really mean?

It seems that the only way to make a layer a particular colour is to click on a colour in the chart and then click on the layer box.  Plus, I can only find one place that specifies the colour of a selected item, but it applies to ALL objects, not just objects of a particular layer.  Am I just trying to get blood out of a stone, here?

I tried looking through the voluminous help documents but I just got tired before I found anything helpful.

I am using OrCAD PCB Editor V16.2.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks to all,

 Cheers,

Allan

     Hi Allan,

The Display folder of the Color Dialog form shows the Temporary highlight color. This is the color an element will default to when it's selected. If this color swatch is white, that would be why white silkscreen doesn't change when you select it.

The Selected and swatch on the form is the same color as the swatch in the Color section (it has a dark border). This is the color that will be assigned to a subclass if you click on a subclass's color swatch. The New swatch is the color swatch in the Color section your cursor last touched (it is "depressed"). There's nothing more to it than that. :)

You may also find the new Assign Color command in Allegro 16.2 to be of use. It replaces the Highlight command and allows you to choose not just the Temporary highlight color but any other color when selecting elements. If you are in Assign Color mode, clicking on an element makes it the Temporary highlight color. But you can also pick a different color or choose a pattern using the Options tab of the Control Panel.

Is that what you're looking for?
