Is there a diff between 9.2 & 16.3 EDIF or MIN formats?

Hello, can anyone please advise if there is any difference between the output created by

versions 9.1/9.2 and the now 16.3 for both EDIF and MIN Interchange output files ?

I.E. will an EDIF file be exactly the same for both a 9.2 and a 16.3 output?

If not, are the differences identified somewhere?

Thank you.

I don't think that there would be any differences for the EDIF netlisting outputs, the EDIF schematic output may differ since the 3rd party vendor changed from DataExpress to ETools.

Since there is no 16.3 Layout, there won't be any 16.3 MIN Interchange, so you could say that these are completely different!

Hello, thank you for your rply - apologies for the delay in getting back to this.

Are you able to pinpoint when the 3rd party vendor changed?

IN 16.3, you say there is no layout, how then would they make a PCB with that version?

(By layout - I mean the PCB package).

Also are there any documents available that may detail the EDIF & MIN outputs from ORCAD?

    Thank you.

    Hi

OrCAD Layout was end of life with release 16.2, so with 16.3 you only get OrCAD/Allegro PCB Editor. For many years they've lived a life in parallel, but now so many customers have changed to PCB Editor and it does not make sense to maintain more than 1 PCB system. Since PCB Editor can do the same and actually much more than OrCAD Layout, Cadence has decided that release 16.2 was the last to have OrCAD Layout.

To my knowledge there are no documentation on the min interchange format. Also note that if we're talking about the EDIF that Bob is refering to, then that is graphical edif which may not be mistaken for EDIF netlist (for PCB design).

    Best regards

    Ole

The third party Vendor that supports OrCAD's schematic EDIF import/export in 16.3 is Elgris Technologies, Inc.

Elgris Technologies supports OrCAD's schematic EDIF import/export since 2005.

Elgris has a tool that allows to compare schematic/netlist EDIF files made by different vendors. The same tool allows conversion of different EDIF dialects to one EDIF style.
