OrCAD/PCB Editor 16.2 – unfilled pads in the footprint

1. Pads unfilled

I’m creating a footprint using the wizard, the pads show unfilled outlines.  How do I make it to show the filled pads?  I’ve tried all the options in display/color.

2. My own library path

OrCAD/PCB Editor uses  C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.2\share\pcb\pcb_lib\symbols as my default library path.  How do I add my own library path so it will search the customized libraries BEFORE using the default?  I do like to keep the default libraries though.  Additionally, how do I specify the additional footprint libraries in Capture so it knows where to grab the footprint when doing forward annotation?

Thank you.

Whoa there! You have an OrCAD Installation, forget all that CDS_SITE and HDL related stuff!

In PCB Editor, you need to get to Setup>User Preferences, then open up Paths and Library. The PSMPATH controls where the compiled symbols get loaded from, and the PADPATH controls where the padstacks get loaded from - concentrate on these for now but all the library paths follow the same convention. Left-click in the "..." button for PSMPATH, see the "$psmpath" default path, check in the "Expand" to see the actual directories. Use the New / Delete / Move Up / Move Down button group to get your library directories added and shifted to the top (front), you can also delete any, or all, of the default entries if you don't need them. When you are done, left-click on OK and get the PADPATH setup in a similar fashion. These settings get saved to the "env" file in the "pcbenv" directory, so once configured, the settings will be saved for this installation / user, depending on local settings for HOME, or HOMEDRIVE\HOMEDIR.
