 Greetings,

What is the incantation to include package height information in CIS schematic capture and Allegro PCB editor?

Thanks,

Ron Scott CID+

Don't quote me on this, but I believe you do Package Geometry - Dfa_Bound_Top, draw your shape, then property edit the shape, double click package height to put it as an active attribute and then type in the height.

     Steve,

I visited that link before but the posts seem to contain conflicting methods. I'll experiment and see what works. I'm trying to "idiot-proof" layouts. I recently had a design that had certain areas where the height of the component was restricted. I had put two areas (just to highlight) so designers could follow the guidelines. Consequently, these areas were shut off by the designer for visibilty, resulting in a gang of components to be placed in the height retricted zone. Lots of re-design work for yours truly. I decided I would need to put height attributes in CIS as well as declare height restriction zones on the PCB. It's pretty hard to ignore DRCs. I don't have a single component that has a height attribute so at least I get to start with a clean slate.

    Cheers,

As long as none of your components have a height attribute then the steps I stated will work. You can add the Package Keepout Areas with min and max height values and have them not displayed (or use the opengl transparency for good visualization). The Package-Package DRC's will still appear and your process should be idiot proof. This way you can have multiple heights for one footprint 0805 Cap v 0805 res etc.

     Steve,

Thanks a lot for the tips. I'm starting on this today and I'll keep you informed of my progress. This is all part of renovating/starting a CIS database and I want to make sure I have all the bases covered.

    Cheers,
