Custom Paste Aperture

 All,

I have a request from my board house for a custom paste aperture. In my original file , I created a standard paste aperture. On this particular aperture, it appears the board house is concerned the paste will ooze out of the center. So we need to "cover" the hole. Additionally, these "covers" need held in place with spokes large enough large enough to provide mechanical support of the squeegee pass but small enought to allow a contiguous solder fillet post reflow. What's the magic formula to do this? I've attached a pict to make my intention clear.

Cheers,

    Hi Ron,

We generally consider a webbing of around 0.2mm (8mils) to be sufficient on a 5mils thick stencil.

You could have some problems with your method. You have produced "flaps" that could catch on the squeegee blades. I would try to avoid concave edges on your apertures.

    Cheers,
    Dave

     Dave,

Thanks for your insight. What method would you recommend to generate the paste aperture? The graphic shows an aperture that resemble vias with thermal relief but I'm not sure how to do that with paste. BTW, congrats to the All Whites on their spectacular tie with Italy.

    Cheers,

    Hi Ron,

I would draw the apertures as shapes within the pin symbol. I don't think there's a shortcut. See attached image

Thanks for the support for the All Whites. The result is a big boost for the beautiful game in NZ.

    Regards, Dave
