I asked Cadence this a while back. Here's the answer:-

Doc description for a connect point in the interactive manual writes:

Connection points are created when a connection (cline) outside a group
is connected to a cline that is in a group. The cpoint is created so
that the original cline remains unaltered in the group.
Normally the new cline would merge with the group, thus changing the aspect
of the group. Cpoint functionality can minimize lost information that is a
result of merged overlapping and or deleted clines.

You can not add cpoints or manipulate them. They are displayed as a diamond
on the clines subclass. The adjustment field for the marker size is found
in the drawing options display box.

Example: Making a group that includes some clines and then sliding a segment
at the end of the cline can add new segments which then are attached to
the net, but the new segments are not part of the group.

An unfilled diamond will display at these junctions. The size of this
diamond can be changed with the Display control for connect point size.

In addition, the ratsnest tee added with net schedules is also a connect
point. The ratsnest tee connect point will display as a solid diamond. The
size of this connect point is not altered by the display option for "connect
    point size".
