Allegro free physical viewer and Windows 7

Hi,

I'm running the Allegro free physical viewer on Windows 7 and I see that the screen is not refreshing.

This results in the nets and components not being highlighted when I select them and the names are not popping up (tips) when I hover with the mouse over the layout.

Has anyone encountered this problem?

Thanks,

Sharon.

yep, try my recommendation found here

If that doesn't work you will have to disable opengl in your tool but i'm not sure you have that ability in the viewer because i've never used that tool.

Well, it solves half of the problem :( although it's quite annoying that it disables the Aero.

Now the highlighting is working but the tips are not popping up.

BTW, I've tried it with PCB editor and it works well after the change you mentioned.

I have another question: I'm getting an error message "Can't open journal file". Why is that?

Are you running dual monitors, might try moving the application to the primary monitor.

I've never seen that other error before.

     Hello Sharon,

I just downloaded the latest version of viewer (several years after your post)... but here is what it says...  May be more helpful for othes who read this.

    Enhanced Graphics (OpenGL functionality)

This release uses enhanced graphics (OpenGL) by default. To utilize this graphics capability a modern computer (purchased within the last 2 years) with updated graphics drivers is required. If you experience stability, performance or graphics issues even after updating to the latest graphics drivers use the legacy graphics mode.  The legacy mode can be accessed from the Microsoft Start menu with  “no OpenGL” selections.

Certain applications (example Net Meeting and VNC) do not support OpenGL. It you use the free viewer with these applications run with OpenGL disabled.
