Swapping nets in PCB Editor

Hello

Using 16.3 software.

I have a processor in our design that has been placed with rats showing.

The Engineer and I have determined that swapping nets to different pins would make the routing easier.

We can decide which ones to swap and go back to edit the nets in the schematic and regenerate a new netlist for this.

I have tried to do this by assigning PIN GROUP numbers in the processor schematic symbol.

We swapped the nets in the design and backanoated the schematic but the Engineer noticed that this changed the pin numbers on the schematic symbol and the nets both.

He was just expecting the nets to change and not the pin numbers.

Is this correct approach or have I not set this up correctly?

    I guess that you are using DE CIS / Capture as the front-end? The function is actually "Pin Swapping", this is what goes on in the board and the schematic. Under the covers when the Back Annotation is applied, the pin number property attached to "Pin X" and the pin number property attached to "Pin Y" are swapped. Check the SWP file to see the feedback that is generated and from which the operation is driven,

    Getting the "Net Aliases" to swap in the schematic would be an entirely different ball game. One reason why many user's flows make the changes in the schematic and drive the swapping from there, rather than from the back end and drive the schematic.

     It is a simpler process to swap the pin number as nothing has be re-drawn.  I think most newbies go through this and then realize there are no easier ways.  It makes some pins on parts funny looking (e.g. D2-D1-D7-D4..etc.  instead of D0-D1-D2-D3) but the information is retained and the graphical layout is untouched.
