 Hi,

In Padstack designer, there are fields for paste mask and film mask.

In our company, paste mask is equal to metal mask.

Film mask is used for what aspect in design?

Thank you.

Just wondering! :)

Thanks in advance

Film Mask is potentially obsolete, it originated from an old method for defining embedded components. You can use / abuse it as a user defined mask but the Solder and Paste masks are the required parameters.

We use the film mask as a layer to create the silk cut layer. So for example, we make it 0.3mm larger than the pads so when we do CAM check we can make sure there are no silk within 0.3mm of open pad.
