I suspect one of the files in your PCBENV directory, most likely the allegro.ini, has become corrupt. Try renaming your PCBENV, which is usually found on your C:\ drive and then restarting the tool.

If the tool starts you can put the PCBENV file back and then rename each file inside of it to see which specific file is the cause.
The *.geo files in the pcbenv directory are just windows and form locations. These can be deleted and they will be regenerated as will the allegro.ini if it is deleted.

Old post, but just ran into the same problem. Renaming PCBENV didn't work, and uninstalling Allegroviewer and reinstalling didn't work. However, uninstalling Allegroviewer, deleting the PCBENV folder and then reinstalling Allegroviewer did work.

I ran in the same problem and I'd like to share the solution which worked for me.

After editing libraries paths preferences within PCB Designer, the program suddenly crashed.
After some research, I found out in PCBENV Directory (look here to know how to find it) that the file named 'env', which is supposed to contain libraries paths, was empty. On the other hand, there was another file called 'env,1' which contained the above-mentioned paths.
Then I cancelled the empty file 'env' and renamed the file 'env,1' into 'env'. That's it, everything worked fine after.

I found that I had to edit my env file in the pcbenv directory and add as the first line: source $TELENV

For some reason my env file got corrupted and this line was missing.

Adding that in cleared the error message the next time I launched the tool, allegro came up

This helped. For some reason my env file first line changed to srcsource $TELENV instead of source $TELENV.
