Creating .PDF using Tcl/Tk Utilities in Capture 16.3

 All,

Here's somthing a little different. I'd like to export a .pdf using the application found in  Accesories--->Cadence Tcl/Tk utilites. This gizmo (when working) produces a searchable pdf which allows one to click on components within the pdf and see properties. I've seen this work in older versions of software. Here's the hitch; I need the postscript driver path for the .pdf editor Bluebeam. I can also use the postscript friver path for Adobe Acrobat Distiller but I prefer to use Bluebeam. Attached is a .png that shows you what I am refering to. Any info will be appreciated.

Cheers,

Ron Scott

You need a Postscript Printer driver installed and set to "Print to file", the name of this printer needs to go in the "Postscript Driver" text box on the PDF Export form, "Acrobat Distiller" is the default value for the driver but this will only work if the Acrobat Distiller is installed. If I set the name in the Postscript Driver text box to "junk" I get the "Postscript Driver not found" message, I think this comes from the "CapPdfPrint" routine in the code that gets called to do the "heavy lifting", hence the actual text does not appear in the TCL source.

$hobbss PDF generation is a two-stage process- 1) Capture design to postscript 2) Postscript to PDF What is missing in your case is the driver required to perform stage 1. Postscript driver is the one that is used to convert the Capture design to Postscript format. If you want to use Acrobat Distiller universal postscript driver, then verify that it is being listed under "Printers and Faxes" on your machine as "Acrobat Distiller) (refer to the snapshot) If it is not listed there, then you will have to download it and install it from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?platform=win&product=pdrv. Follow the download and install instructions mentioned in the PDF document /tools/capture/tclscripts/OrCAD_Capture_TclTk_Extensions.pdf , Chapter - 13 (PDF Export for Capture Design), Section - 13.3 (Use Model). You will have to install it on a File: Local Port. Once you have this installed, you should have the PDF export running.

Ok.  I'll buy that (still not sure why it worked originally).

As far as I can find, Acrobat Distiller is not available for Windows 7 64 bit (at least not without buying some Adobe product).  Is there a generic, free (and legal) postscript printer driver available?  I am not sure how to install one for Windows and make it be recognized as a printer.

On windows 7, you must have a printer driver already installed, something as "MS Publisher Color Printer (redirected xxx)". Just provide this exact name in the PDF export option for "Postscript Driver".
