edit signal names in HDL following a group copy

How can I edit one digit of a group of signal names after I copy a schematic group without having to change these individually?  It has been some time but I recall using a text editor to do this quickly. I tried the "copy all" which did copy the signal names. Great!  But then the Tools>Global Update>Global Property Change... did not work as I expected.  I tried using a wild card (*) to retain most of the net name but the tool replaced the net name with the wild card.

While you'll need to do this page-by-page, try this:

Use the group command to include the signals you want to change. In the console window, type change A (where A is the group letter). The enter CTRL-E. A text editor should appear and you can find/replace the needed characters.

    Thanks Jerry.  This worked great.

It also worked nicely for changing the reference designators  i.e. "2_U1" to "3_U1".

KJ, have you tried PASTE SPECIAL command?  It does allow for modifying the signal names before pasting circuitry that's been copied using Edit > Copy.

     K2J4,

Looking at your example I'm going to guess what you want to do and propose an alternative.

There is another way. Is your copied section large enough to consider using a hierachical design? If so, try this:

Create a hierachical block containing your section to be copied.

Instantiate your block multiple times in the schematic.

Attach the property SUBDESIGN_SUFFIX=BERT to the first hierachical block.

Attach the property SUBDESIGN_SUFFIX=FRED to the second hierachical block.

When you compile the design, a resistor that shows as R1 when you drill into the HB (occurance edit mode switched off) will appear as R1_BERT in the first HB and as R1_FRED in the  second HB.

    Does that help?
