Cadence PCB Panelling

Hello everyone,

 

Recenly I face problem on Cadence related to PCB panelling.

So when I want to make 1 panel consists of 4 PCBs, I just can make 1 full data on a cavity, but another 3 cavities left blank (just outline).

Then PCB manufacturer will copy itself the original data into another 3 cavities.

Is there any method in Cadence to make PCB panel that consist of more than one cavity so that the PCB manufacturer doesn't need to copy the original data to another cavity?

Like on panelling on Zuken or fablink on Mentor, so that we can make panel data that consist of many PCBs.

     This has been a concern for Cadence for the last 3-4 years, but it just hasn't received the priority to make it happen. Personally, I NEVER panelize my own designs. My fabricators, using Valor can do it so much easier, faster, and to their capabilities (aside from my overall constraints), so they get my business.

     But as I mentioned, Cadence has this in their plans. When it will happen, I don't know.

    Hello,

    It will be OK when we use one PCB vendor to proceed the PCB and also make metal mask for PCB assembly.

    But when we have different PCB vendor and metal mask maker, sometimes it will have problem. We send cadence gerber data to PCB vendor then they proceed the PCB and parallely we also send the gerber data to metal mask maker to make stencil. Sometimes the result of copying this gerber into several cavities is different between those 2 vendors (PCB and metal mask maker).

    Most PCB Vendors will gladly send you the step and repeat data after they have done there bit so you can then send the data onto your stencil manufacturer.

     Different PCB maker and mask maker? We all have that issue. Our PCB fabricator is always a different company from our assembler (mask maker/user). Here's how you/I deal with it - when the PCB fabricator is panelizing your design, have them send the panelized paste mask (solder stensil) files back to you. Very common. There should be no issues doing this, as long as you're in good communications with your fabricator.

    I do this with all my jobs, add these as the assembly data I release, and have it for whatever assembly house I may go to.

    There is one way where you can make panel in cadence.

    You need make complete design  into single  mechanical symbol  that is using skill. and then you can place mutilple design(single component) in panel passion.
