Concept HDL reuse block difference

Samuel Zhang
Samuel Zhang over 14 years ago

Hi everyone. I have a question about the reuse block desgin. I want to reuse a block for many times, but I find that the circuit is a little change. For exmaple, the value of a resistor in the subdesign is 4.7K, but the resistor  in the circiut where I want to place the reuse block is changed to 10K, no other differences. So can I still use this reuse block? or I have to build another different block(just a little difference between two resistors)?

Thanks very much!

    Hi Sam,

Sure – you can do this. Simply go into Occurrence Edit Mode (via the DEHDL Tools menu) and change the resistor part value as needed. This will be saved in the opf file for the root design (not in the reuse module) and will be unique to that design.

Hi Jerry, thank you for your reply so quickly. In the occurence mode, can I do any other changes(Including symbol replace and internal signal name changes, not just change the part value)? Does the change influence the reuse subdesgin? I will have a try.

    Thanks.

    Hi Sam,

You cannot alter the logic of the design (connectivity – like adding parts, wires, etc.). You can only change the properties on parts/nets.

Please read the product manual located here:

Thank you Jerry. Yes it's true that we can just edit the properties in the occurence mode. So we have to treat them as diverse reuse blocks for any little differences even such as internal signal name change or part replace.
