How to create NC-Rout files for ROUND Holes

 Hi everybody,

I would like to know how to cause Allegro to create an NC-Rout file to rout out round holes for a hole that I choose.  I understand that Allegro does it automatically for non-round holes (such as slots, ovals, rectangles, etc.).  That's fine, but I have a board that has a few very large round holes, 5.16", to be exact.  Our board manufacturer will not drill holes this big.  Is there a way to cause a round hole to generate NC-Router data?  I can't seem to find this instance described in the documentation.

Added note: I implemented these large holes as mechanical symbols using padstacks rather than plain circular lines on the outline layer.  That makes them much easier to locate and move around.

I am using OrCAD PCB Editor, revision 16.3 with latest patches applied.

 Thanks in advance.

 Cheers,

Allan

Try running your round hole as an oval but use equal X and Y size and Allegro will output a route file for that hole.

You shouldn't need to bother. Your fabricator will automatically convert such holes to routes.

PCB editor will generate two types of drill files1. XXX. drl is for only round shaped drills2. XXX.rou is for only slot kind of drillsSo, provide both files for fabricator

Yes, Dave, you are probably right, and I will check with our board fab to make sure.

    Thanks.
