Move complete block of components and tracks

Hi,

In OrCAD layout there was a command called 'Move Block'. That way you could just select a block

of objects and it moved it to where ever you wanted. That way you could move components, routed tracks

and also shapes to a different location. I tried the same with Allegro PCB Editor (V16.3) by selecting the

components plus the routed tracks between them. Using the MOVE command I used the option stretch etch.

That moved the components and the tracks, however, I still got kind of rubber band tracks on the etch. This means the whole block of components and tracks is not just moved 'as is'.

At some edges of several tracks it gives me this etch rubber band. How can one just move one block of components and routed tracks AS IS from A to B?

    EDIT/Groups

     -Create a group name <cr>

    -Select the elements you want in the group (symbols, clines, vias, etc)

    MOVE

    - select GROUP in find filter

    - move the group to where you want

    EXPERIMENT with the GROUP function.  :)

    I found another solution. You need to have Symbols, Vias and Clines only selected (FIND filter) when

    selecting the stuff to move. Then move the selected objects with Stretch Etch ticked in the OPTIONS menu.

    That way I did no longer get the rubber tracks.

       What is the differnece between Stretch Etch, Ripup Etch, and if Not selected both....

    Hi Venkat,

    I just tested this out and could not find a difference. Means, I could just move the

    whole block without any problems. Maybe there are cases/situations were it is necessary

    to have any of the two boxes ticked. Two more tipps:

    1. If you have shapes in the block that needs to be moved, you should tick 'Shapes' in the

    Design Object Find Filter. That way shapes are selected (and moved) too when you select your block.

    2. If you select the block you could do a right-click and in the menu select: Selection set -> Select by Polygon.

    This way you can select more precisely the objects you want to move, otherwise you can select a rectangle

    only.
