Check for latest footprints in Allegro

Is there an easy way to check to see if you have the latest footprint in the layout?  I know you can update symbols, but I would like to run a checker just to see if I NEED to update anything.

I would say not. The SKILL documentation does not list any Comp, or Symbol, property for a timestamp or version. There might be something internal for efficiency of the Update Symbols function but nothing public. To be fair, the Update Symbols function simply ensures that the Design symbols and configured Library symbols are the same so any checking of the symbols is not a requirement for that to work.

Thank you for the information.  I was afraid that was the answer.  Yes the Update Symbols function works well, but (in my mind) to use this properly you need to Reset symbol text location and size.  This is a bit of a bummer if you are making a small change to an existing project.

This is possible - at least in 16.5. The symbol definition has a property of VERSION_ID (that can be extracted as a date using the Skill command axlVersionIdPrint). This can be compared with the creation date of the psm in the path.

This is good to know.  We haven't made the jump to v16.5 yet.  We can add this to a list of reasons to go ahead and make the jump.  thank you!

From a quick test: Probably for "historical" reasons, not all symbols in an existing design will have a VERSION_ID property, SKILL will get a bit upset if you try to pass a "nil" into the axlVersionIdPrint function.
